JAVANESE

The Javanese is everything that is Balinese and then some. They have the intelligence, grace and refinement of the Siamese, the luxurious silky coat of the Balinese, both combined with the crazy mixed-up colors of the Colorpoint Shorthair (Siamese cats with the reds, creams, lynx and tortie point colors and patterns that were first introduced to the Siamese via the Domestic Shorthair).  They are named after Java, the next island over from Bali, a sister island to Bali. They were accepted for Championship competition (CFA, Cat Fanciers of America, USA) in 1986. Their popularity has since grown leaps and bounds.

They are best known for their tabby markings, and are called "lynx-point" (or other color) Balinese outside CFA, that is in other registries.

When the Siamese left their country of origin, Thailand, and went abroad, they became the cat that offers something for everyone:  a coat of many colors and a heart of gold. Our Javis, Balis, and Oriental Longhairs are rare nowadays. Their numbers are dangerously low among just a handful of breeders who are diligently trying to outcross the breed for its continued health and existence. For more information, see these breeds on the CFA website (www.cfa.org).
